Always something new – this is how Whatsapp users want to bind to themselves. A major update is coming in August. But even before that there is an adjustment.
Dortmund – A life without Whatsapp? Would be possible, after all, there are now enough alternatives to the popular messenger service from Meta. The Facebook group, which is trying to bind users to itself with new updates, will also know this. There will be new features later this month.

Whatsapp will release a new update in August – one function is still open
Actually, the messenger now has many functions that users have missed in the past. It was only this year that the function of “reacting” to Whatsapp messages with emojis was introduced. This has the advantage that group chats in particular remain tidier and are not flooded with emojis.
In addition, the new function of being able to edit messages later is still in the starting blocks. Insiders have already spotted the first clues and it is only a matter of time before Whatsapp rolls out the corresponding update. But that’s not all: Another major update is coming in August.
Whatsapp brings three major innovations with the new update
And that is primarily in the sign of security and privacy. The new functions should be loud to users T-Online have wanted for a long time. Three new features in the meta app are crucial:
- Leave groups secretly: If users leave a group, only the admin will be notified in future. The remaining members of the Whatsapp chat will then no longer receive a message about it.
- Personalize online ad: Users will soon be able to decide who can see whether they are currently online in Messenger and who should not. The display should soon be able to be completely deactivated.
- Screenshot-Lock: With the update, media that are sent as a single view can no longer be saved via screenshot by the recipient. The screenshot will then be blocked.

Even before the planned update, Whatsapp publishes a decisive relief
But it should not stop with these new functions, which primarily serve the purpose of privacy. Whatsapp announces that messages that might contain an embarrassing typo can now be deleted over a longer period of time.
Where Messenger users previously only had an hour and eight minutes to delete a message from the chat, Whatsapp is now giving a time extension. In the future, users will have two days to delete a message.
But be careful: the message does not disappear completely without a trace. You can also see the message that a message has been deleted. When the time is up, the message can only be deleted from your own field of vision. The chat partner continues to see them.
💭 Rethinking your message? Now you’ll have a little over 2 days to delete your messages from your chats after you hit send.

In addition, a new function called “registration confirmation” is to be rolled out, reports on it Chip. This is intended to give users an in-app message if someone else tries to log into the account. So it’s another security feature. It is not known when this function will be introduced.
