The new general conditions of use of WhatsApp somewhat shake up the received ideas of the application which, to objectively summarize the approach, bypass the GDPR to use, with your consent, the data collected from your exchanges. The latter will be transferred to Facebook (owner of WhatsApp) which can resell them to advertisers in order to refine the advertising profiling that you will find in your social networks.
Frans Imbert-Vier, Franco-Swiss specialist in data protection and sovereignty, reacts:

“Now is the time to realize once and for all that free internet has a price. That of our private life and ultimately of our free will as consumers.
For business use, it couldn’t be more irresponsible and unprofessional to offer a WhatsApp conversation with a client or partner, and in two ways. On the one hand, you cannot guarantee the confidentiality of the exchange and the latter is devoid of any sovereignty. The fact that GAFAM and other applications, when they are free, have a price: you or that of your professional activity.
So what is left to exchange with confidence, in a professional manner and without ever having the surprise of finding what you are saying where you don’t want to see it?
In the digital world and particularly in all that relates to the use of the Internet, free access does not exist. And if your wallet remained intact with WhatsApp and other sisters, it is your ethics and your duty of reserve that paid the price. The bad news is that now, calling for free and in confidentiality is no longer possible and it has never been possible! The good news is that there are now some solutions, such as Olvid, Tixeo, or even Seald, certainly paid, but financially accessible, user-friendly and French!
Therefore, equipping oneself with cyber security finally becomes financially bearable with a much improved level of efficiency. “
