WhatsApp fixes years of problem with an update

Portraits, screenshots and more: In the photo gallery on your smartphone you will certainly also find one or the other photo or video in portrait format. But WhatsApp has so far only been able to handle it poorly.

However, if you want to send a photo or video in portrait format via WhatsApp, it will appear square to the recipient. A piece of the motif is cut off at the top and bottom. Only when the recipient clicks on the photo does he see the complete motif.

An update now solves this problem and correctly displays photos in portrait format in chat. The update is already being distributed for both Android and iOS. On Android it has the version number 2.21.8.11 and on the iPhone 2.21.71.

Normal photos in 4: 3 format will be displayed in full from now on. However, if the photos are even higher, the result will still be cropped. Other messengers, such as Telegram, manage to display the photo in full in all formats.

WhatsApp improves self-erasing messages

Messages that delete themselves after 7 days have known WhatsApp users for a few weeks. In groups, however, only administrators can activate or deactivate the function for the entire group. In the future, each group member should be able to make this attitude for himself. At the moment, however, we have not yet been able to find this feature. It may first have to be activated by WhatsApp on the server side.

WhatsApp is currently being criticized for new data protection regulations. With these, Facebook, the company behind WhatsApp, wants to link the messenger’s user data with its own social network. Data protectionists want to prevent this with an urgency procedure, as such a step could hardly be reversed afterwards. You can read more about this here:
