Whatsapp users will have two days and 12 hours to delete messages.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The messaging platform Whatsapp is following in the footsteps of iMessage which got the option to cancel sending messages for the first time in iOS 16 beta. Whatsapp released an update that allows users to delete messages up to two days after they were sent.
Changed option to delete sent messages announced by Whatsapp via account Twitter-his. According to the company, users now have two days to decide not to send messages in private or group chats.
“Rethinking your message? Now you will have two days to delete your message from the chat once you hit the send button,” said @WhatsApp.
More specifically, Whatsapp users will have two days and 12 hours to delete a message after sending it. Previously, this limit was very specific, namely one hour, eight minutes, and 16 seconds.
To delete a message sent on Whatsapp, you need to tap and hold it for a few seconds, then tap the “Delete” button. While Whatsapp increases the time users delete messages, Apple does the opposite with iMessage.
In the first beta version of iOS 16, users have 15 minutes to unsend messages. Now with the latest beta, this limit has been reduced to just two minutes.
The feature is quite controversial as some users believe that the option to edit and unsend messages can be used for malicious purposes. It also causes Apple to add a change history for messages edited in iMessage.
Meanwhile, the popular Whatsapp and iMessage competitor, Telegram, allows users to edit and delete unlimited messages. Reported 9to5Mac, Wednesday (10/8/2022), as noted by MacMagazine, Whatsapp has also been working on a feature to allow group admins to delete messages from any user. However, this feature is still available for beta users at this time. Recently, Whatsapp has released an official migration tool from Android to iOS and vice versa and a new beta app for macOS users.
