WhatsApp Doesn’t Restrict Platform Functionality for Users Who Don’t Accept Its New Privacy Policy

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – Instant messaging app WhatsApp reportedly will not restrict functionality on its platform to users who have not received the privacy policy update.

Quoting from the page The Verge website on Monday (31/5/2021), WhatsApp will not limit the functionality of the app to users who disagree with its latest privacy policy.

According to WhatsApp, it has discussed with authorities and privacy experts regarding this matter.

From this discussion, WhatsApp ultimately will not limit the functionality of the application to its users.

“We now prefer to focus on raising users about the policy over time, and no longer focus on accepting the new privacy policy,” a WhatsApp spokesperson said.

By improving these policies, WhatsApp hope that its users will voluntarily accept the update without coercion.

Previous WhatsApp officially enforce new privacy policy on access to personal data to its users on May 15, 2021.

WhatsApp itself had threatened its users, to accept this latest privacy policy. If you do not accept, then the user account will be deleted and can no longer use the service WhatsApp.

Quoting from the official blog page WhatsApp on Sunday (16/5/2021), WhatsApp softened and no longer threatened to immediately delete user accounts.
