For some time, WhatsApp users have been able to set new chats so that the messages disappear after a certain period of time. This function is now to be extended to existing chats.
With WhatsApp you can make various chat elements disappear again after a short time. In addition to launching disappearing videos and photos last year, Meta’s messaging app also introduced an extension for the Self-Deleting Messages feature. This allows users to set whether messages should disappear after 24 hours, a week or 90 days. So far, this option is only available for newly created chats. But that could change soon, so that messages can also be set to disappear from existing chats.
Make new messages disappear from old WhatsApp chats
The blog specialized in WhatsApp innovations WABetaInfo.com reports that the app is developing a feature to set disappearing messages to existing chats. In this case, only the new messages from the time of the posting would disappear. To do this, users only have to actively select the existing chats in order to apply the so-called default message timer to them. A screenshot on the blog shows that in the future users will be able to assign the function for disappearing messages to various chats on a subpage in the settings. In this way, they would not have to access each chat and the group information and settings individually.

This abbreviation is useful if several chats are to be provided with the function. However, the expansion of the feature is currently still in the development phase. That’s why it’s not yet available for WhatsApp users, not even in beta testing. However, the existence of the screenshot indicates that the beta version will be rolled out in a timely manner.
