A chain letter is currently spreading on WhatsApp, according to which church bells will ring at 8 p.m. throughout Europe as a declaration of solidarity with Ukraine. But is that true?

Different variants in circulation

The wording varies, but a bell ringing for 8 p.m. is always announced without a date. You are also asked to turn off the light to “show Putin that we’d rather sit in the dark than buy his gas and oil,” the chain letter continues, according to the portal.

You will also be asked to forward the WhatsApp message. The messenger had recently restricted this function in order to limit the spread of false information through chain letters about its service.
