WhatsApp chat found in Messenger code

Social media giant Facebook have long been considering creating an all-in-one SMS platform that integrates Facebook Messenger, Instagram DM, y Whatsapp. Last year, the company took its first step by integrating Facebook Messenger with DM from Instagram. Now there is also an update on the WhatsApp integration. Italian code researcher Alessandro Paluzzi has found (via WABetaInfo) a WhatsApp chat hidden in the Facebook Messenger code. While it is not possible to integrate the two services, Paluzzi has forced a thread to be recognized as a WhatsApp conversation to show what it will look like when the feature is available in the future. The informant hints that the connection between WhatsApp and Messenger will be optional, as is the case with Instagram and Messenger.

WABetaInfo, in its report, said that various functions already implemented in Facebook Messenger should also be integrated into WhatsApp. WABetaInfo says that the feature is still being tested for iOS, so it may take some time to show up on users’ WhatsApp accounts. Last week, WhatsApp presented disappearance messages to all group chat users and improved the media preview.

Facebook merged its DM Messenger and Instagram last year in August. It’s unclear when the final WhatsApp integration will take place, but since clues already appear in the app’s code, it’s safe to assume that Facebook could complete the Messenger-Instagram DM-WhatsApp integration later this year.
