In this case the mechanism exploits “Change number”, which allows you to associate the user with a new telephone number without losing the contents of your previous conversations.
The message to keep one’s guard up is the following: “Hi, I sent you a code by mistake, can you send it back to me?”. Of course there may be some slight textual variation, but the substance does not change. This is a shady attempt at identity theft.
To make the staging more credible is that the message often comes from a number in your address book (which has probably already fallen into the trap). In this way the user who does not know this dynamic tends to trust by granting the code.
Unfortunately, however, this “reckless” action can have deleterious effects and first of all deprives us of the control of our profile. Subsequently, even more unpleasant things could happen such as perhaps actions carried out in our name but of which in reality we know practically nothing. Therefore, it is always good to be wary of controversial messages that reach us Whatsapp. In the vast majority of cases it is one fraud.
