WhatsApp becomes multilingual: translation function planned

Messenger

WhatsApp brings new features with automatic translation and contact lists that break language barriers and offer better organization.

In a world where we are increasingly globally connected, communication across language barriers is becoming more and more important. WhatsApp is now taking a big step in this direction: a current beta version of the messenger brings an automatic translation function that enables real-time translations directly in the chat. In addition, a list management function is being introduced that simplifies the organization of contacts and groups.

Communication without language barriers

The automatic translation function, which is available in the Beta version 2.24.15.12 for Android available, allows users to translate chat messages in real time. Users can select the language they want and WhatsApp will download the appropriate language packs. Translations are performed directly on the device, maintaining end-to-end encryption and not sending any data to external servers.

At launch, automatic translation will be available for English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Hindi. Additional languages, including German, will follow in future updates. This feature is particularly useful in international chat groups where messages are often written in different languages.

Better organization in WhatsApp: lists for contacts and groups

Another planned feature is according to WABetaInfo a list management feature that allows users to create different lists for contacts and groups. These lists should enable more precise management of interactions and could also be used for targeted status updates.

The new features are currently in beta and are only available for Android users for the time being. They are expected to be released for iPhone users soon. Once they have been sufficiently tested, the features will then be distributed to all users.
