The applications have increased the maximum number of people who can participate in group video calls to 32, as well as facilitating some actions during calls
WhatsApp (Android, iOS) announced new features for video calls and voice calls, this Wednesday 14. The application has expanded the possible number of participants, as well as making it easier to mute and send messages during calls, as well as share them.
Video calls now support up to 32 concurrent participants, same limit as audio calls. Until then, there was a limit of eight people on video calls.
Also new: it is now possible to tap on the name of the participant to increase the audio and video feed or mute or send a private message to the user while participating in the call, which can be shared via a link.
The update also brought changes to the app design during calls. One of them makes it easier to see who’s talking if the camera is off. Banner notifications appear when a new participant joins the call.
A minimized version of video calling is in beta testing, scheduled for release in 2023, which will allow you to do other things on your device while video conferencing.
