Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – WhatsApp has brought proxy support to its both Android and iPhone users. The service is to keep users connected even without the Internet.
Before setting up a proxy, first make sure that the available WhatsApp application uses the latest version. Here’s how to set it up:
1. Open WhatsApp
2. In the Chats tab, select More options > Settings
3. Click Storage & Data > Proxies
4. Select Use proxy
5. Next, select the Set up proxy menu and enter the proxy address
6. Select Save. After that, a checkmark will appear when the connection is successful.
It should be noted that users may still experience problems sending or receiving messages. In this case, it is possible that the proxy address has been blocked.
To re-enable it, long-press the blocked proxy address you want to remove. Try resetting it by entering a new proxy address.
Apart from that, iPhone users can also set up a proxy on their device. Check the following method:
1. Open WhatsApp
2. Go to WhatsApp Settings
3. Select Storage & data > Proxies
4. Select Use proxy
5. Enter the proxy address and select Save to connect.
6. A check mark will appear if the connection was successful.
7. If it still doesn’t work, maybe the proxy address has been blocked. You can try a different address.
WhatsApp also states that those who want to use the service can set up a WhatsApp Proxy with an available server and a domain or subdomain name at the server’s IP address.
Here are some of them:
Basic doors
80: standard web traffic (HTTP)
443: Standard and encrypted web traffic (HTTPS).
5222: Jabber protocol traffic (default WhatsApp)
Configuration port to receive incoming proxy headers (version 1 or 2) on connection
8080: Standard web traffic (HTTP) with expected PROXY protocol
8443: Standard web traffic is expected, encrypted (HTTPS) with the PROXY protocol
8222: Jabber protocol traffic expected (default WhatsApp) with PROXY protocol
Meanwhile, the proxy will allow users to connect to WhatsApp using servers prepared by volunteers and organizations from around the world. They create servers to help people communicate freely.
WhatsApp also claims to be protected by end-to-end encryption, so no one will be able to peek at your messages except the sender and recipient of the chat. “Connecting through a proxy will maintain the high level of privacy and security provided by WhatsApp,” wrote WhatsApp, quoted from its official blog, on Monday (9/1/2023).
