Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 760th goal of his career on Wednesday night to become — reportedly — the top scorer in football history.
The 35-year-old opened the scoring in Juventus’s Italian Super Cup victory over Napoli, taking his tally for the reigning Serie A champions to 85. Ronaldo found the net five times for for Sporting Lisbon, 118 times for Manchester United, 450 times for Real Madrid, and 102 times for Portugal .
The legitimacy of Ronaldo’s record is tempered by a disputed claim that former Rapid Vienna striker Josef Biscan, who retired in 1955, accumulated 805 career goals, although that total is said to include strikes for Rapid’s reserve and amateur teams, and also some in unofficial international matches.
