Food in hospitals is a river. For years, the Internet has been flooded with photos of unappetizing hospital meals, and patients on social media complain that they are not starving just because their family brings them something to eat.

We decided to check what a sample menu served to patients in hospitals in Krakow looks like. In total, we asked 14 outlets near Wawel for a sample menu. Only half of them answered our questions. Among them are: the Provincial Children’s Hospital of St. Ludwik, Institute of Oncology, hospital. S. Żeromski, hospital named after G. Narutowicz, a specialist hospital named after Jana Pawła 2, Lesser Poland Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Hospital for them. prof. Frańczuk and the J. Babiński psychiatric hospital.

In the responses sent to us, hospitals indicate that the diversity of patients’ ailments forces them, in addition to the standard menu, to create group diets, including easily digestible, diabetic, liver, ulcer, pancreatic, high-protein, high-carbohydrate, vegan or vegetarian diets. In addition, there are also patients with allergies, for whom it is necessary to develop an individual diet.
