(CNN) — If you plan to travel to New York City, take these data into account so that you are not taken by surprise. Here’s what to expect on your visit during the covid-19 pandemic.
The basics
New York State lifted nearly all travel restrictions due to the pandemic in June as 70% of New Yorkers 18 and older had received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
However, a new vaccination requirement called “Key to NYC” went into effect on August 17 in response to the delta variant outbreak. This requirement requires proof of vaccination for customers and employees of restaurants, gyms, and entertainment centers.
Compliance with these measures will take effect on September 13, according to New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.

All travelers entering the United States by air must test negative for COVID-19.
What are the restrictions?
Asymptomatic travelers arriving in New York from another US country, state or territory are not required to undergo a COVID-19 test or quarantine.
The New York authorities continue to recommend quarantine for all travelers who are not fully vaccinated or who have not recovered from COVID-19 during the previous three months. It is also recommended that these travelers be tested three to five days after arriving in New York.
All travelers entering the United States by air require a negative COVID-19 test result. Passengers must undergo a viral test within three days prior to the departure of their flight to the US and present documentation of laboratory results or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19.
What is the situation of covid-19?
As of September 9, almost 33,970 total confirmed and probable deaths and more than 1,047,000 total confirmed or probable cases had been registered. The positivity rate for the tests is 4.14% in the last 28 days.
What can visitors expect?
Restaurants, cinemas, and other venues are open, but only for fully vaccinated customers.
The city strongly recommends the use of masks indoors, but has decided not to make it a must. The “Key to NYC” vaccination mandate will begin to be implemented by the city on September 13, giving businesses and locals a few weeks to work out the details before sanctions for non-compliance are applied.

The observation deck on the 86th floor of the Empire State Building is open. The Metropolitan Museum of Art requires visitors age 12 and older to be vaccinated, and children ages 2-11 must wear a mask.
The metro system continues to operate 24 hours a day.
New York State implemented the Excelsior Pass, which allows people who have received a negative test or a vaccination in New York State to present proof of their status. The digital pass is not a requirement for venues or events that require tests or vaccinations to enter, so a traveler from another state could use their own vaccination card or lab test result to enter.
