Disease symptoms
The symptoms are very variable and non-specific. The following symptoms can occur:
- Cough (usually dry)
- Sore throat
- shortness of breath
- Fever, feeling of fever
- muscle pain
Rare are:
- a headache
- Gastrointestinal symptoms
- Conjunctivitis
- sniff
- The symptoms can vary in severity. Complications such as pneumonia are also possible.
You must stay at home for 10 days from the onset of any of these symptoms. Follow the instructions for self-isolation. Avoid any contact with other people during this time. After you’ve fully recovered, stay at home for another 48 hours.
Course of the disease
Diseases with the new corona virus can take different forms. Some people have mild symptoms or hardly notice that they are sick. Others need intensive hospital treatment.
If you have a fever and cough
If you have symptoms of illness, you must stay at home so that you do not infect anyone.
If the symptoms are mild, you can take care of yourself.
If you are at higher risk of becoming seriously ill or if the symptoms worsen: Call your doctor. You or he decides whether a medical clarification has to be carried out or whether it is sufficient if you stay at home and take care of yourself.

Can the disease be treated?
There is currently no treatment for coronavirus diseases. Treatment is limited to symptom relief. Sick people are isolated to protect other people. In the case of a serious illness, treatment in the intensive care unit is usually required. Artificial ventilation may be required.
A disease with the new corona virus cannot be cured with antibiotics. Because antibiotics do not work against viruses, but only against bacteria.

On February 11, 2020, the WHO gave the disease the disease caused by the new coronavirus an official name: COVID-19, short for «coronavirus disease 2019» or in German coronavirus disease 2019.
