The GeForce RTX 3090 Founders Edition is a card whose memories can easily reach the limit of 110 ° C, after which power is usually reduced in order to reduce the temperature, but this is especially true for mining. Especially with the card used in this way, we would be very reluctant to see something like this after opening the cooler:
–
It is a rubber foxglove, which is used by employees in production in order not to grease the surface of chips, coolers or heat-conducting pads. Grease complicates heat transfer, but not nearly as much as a forgotten piece of rubber covering two of the GDDR6X’s memories. A certain Antonyjeweet from Reddit was unpleasantly surprised when he finally decided to modify his RTX 3090 FE, which was performed by many others before him.
Unsurprisingly, the memory temperatures of his card reached just 110 ° C, but it seems that at least the GPU was still well connected to the heatsink. But not ideally, as shown by the thicker layer of paste on its upper left corner. The author thus immediately replaced the original thermal pads on the card and now its memories reach a maximum of 86 ° C. It is necessary to add that the quality of these pads can be sad even on very expensive cards. Goods sold for tens of thousands of crowns often use low-quality gray matter, from which silicone oil leaks after heating, as the following picture shows (Igor Wallossek).-

In such a case, it definitely makes sense to replace this horror with better quality material and at the same time shake your head at how the manufacturers are trying to save. Especially in the case of GDDR6X memories, it also pays to use heat transfer pads on the back metal plate of the card on the other side of the PCB in place of the memory, which we also usually do not expect from the manufacturers.

But we can look forward to something else, such as unpeeled protective foils made of heat-conducting pads, with which one of the cards arrived Radeon RX 6700 XT od PowerColor and fortunately the new owner noticed the blue foils visible under the radiator. What about the output control? Probably nothing, but it will happen.-
