What would the map of Mexico look like if the north were separated from the rest of the country?

Renowned businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego, who is also the president of TV Azteca, caused a stir on social media when he launched a proposal to separate northern Mexico from the rest of the country.

Through his official X account, the businessman uploaded a controversial photograph accompanied by a text that raises the possibility of dividing the lower and upper parts of the country’s map.

The back-and-forth arose over his idea, as it is a process similar to the so-called Brexit, which led the United Kingdom to leave the European Union.

“What would the new country be called and who would be the president?” These were some of the words that Salinas Pliego included.

Without giving further details of his initiative, the businessman uploaded a photograph of the map of the Republic and included the aforementioned phrase.

According to the image, the line divides the northern states of the country, right in the middle, starting from the Pacific and going towards the Gulf of Mexico. A marked line can be seen from Colima to Tamaulipas in the central part and outlining all the excess above.

The initiative provoked a stance against and in favor of the initiative from some people in the country. Although it could be a sarcastic tone on the part of the businessman, not having something clear often causes doubts and even divisions that exist in Mexico.

Meanwhile, the businessman denounced an alleged “coup d’état” by the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) party, this after the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) validated the qualified majority of the Morena bench and allies in the Chamber of Deputies.

“With a vote of 4 to 1, the Electoral Court approves the distribution of the next legislature with a qualified majority for Morena. First Illegal Act: Allowing the overrepresentation of Morena by assigning it 75% of Congress with only 54% of the votes obtained. Second Illegal Act (It’s coming): Ending the independence of the Judiciary and leaving it in the hands of Morena. Third Illegal Act (The end): Leaving citizens subject to the will of Morena and its henchmen, that is, the “Tyranny of the Majority,” the businessman expressed through his official account X.
