Expect frost at the start of the month, rain around October 10 and warm, dry weather suitable for field work between October 15 and 25

In October, the agrometeorological conditions will be determined by temperatures around and above the climatic norms and precipitation close to the norms for the month. After the summer drought, the economically important rains that fell in September, in some areas of Eastern Bulgaria and in places in Western Bulgaria, improved the moistening of the upper soil layers and the conditions for carrying out seasonal tillage.
During most of the days of the first ten days of October, significant precipitation is not forecast and the conditions will allow the preparation of the areas and their sowing with winter cereals. The summer drought prevents the timely sowing of winter rapeseed, and in places in the Polish regions of Central Bulgaria, the areas will be sown outside the agrotechnical period. It is very likely that the late crops will not enter the rosette phase during their autumn vegetation, which ensures the successful wintering of the crop without damage.
October is the optimal agrotechnical time for sowing winter cereals. In the first half of the month are the deadlines for Northern Bulgaria, in the second half of the month for Southern Bulgaria, and in the third ten-day period are the deadlines for the Black Sea regions. The expected rainfall at the end of the first and the beginning of the second decade, as well as in the second half of the third decade of the month, will be of great importance for the normal course of the initial stages of the wheat and barley vegetation. In October, depending on the sowing dates, the following phases will be observed for wheat – germination, first and third leaf.
The predicted warm weather in the second half of the month will be a prerequisite for increasing the population of the common vole. Crops with autumn crops must be examined and, upon reaching the economic threshold of harmfulness, treated – PIV-2 no. active colonies/ha. Field conditions will be available in the middle of the second and the first half of the third ten-day period, when relatively dry weather is forecast.
In October, in the case of apple and pear plantations attacked by scab, to reduce the infection, it is desirable to treat with a 5% solution of urea at the beginning of fall, after harvesting the fruits.
In the case of stone fruit species, after mass leaf fall, spraying with 2% Bordeaux solution against the causes of powdery mildew, early brown rot, peach curl is recommended.
Frosts are forecast at the beginning of October, which will limit the possibilities for additional production from the late vegetable crops subject to salinization.
