What will the Czechs refuel when the classic engines end – Seznam Správy

Cars with combustion engines are said to be at the end of their historical era. But what actually beats diesel and gasoline? Will it be the electric drive that now seems to be the favorite for years to come?

Professor Macek from the Vehicle Center for Sustainable Mobility of the Czech Technical University does not clearly see it that way. According to him, if electromobility is to play a really significant role in Czech transport, it will require the capacity of several Temelín blocks. “Unfortunately, the public receives incomplete information about the demands of electromobility on electricity production.”

“Furthermore, as long as cheap batteries from China are installed in electric cars and coal is used in energy, electromobility of the amount of CO emissions2 it won’t reduce in the air,” says a recognized expert.

As early as 2025, the Euro 7 emission standard is due to come into force, which significantly tightens the conditions mainly for diesel engines, but also sets a limit on the lifespan of batteries in electric cars. The head of the domestic representative office of Toyota and Lexus, Martin Peleška, claims that the Japanese car manufacturer is definitely not against emission limits. However, according to him, reducing emissions should take place in a more natural way. “People themselves should feel the need to change something,” thinks Peleška.

Years ago, Toyota bet on hybrid drives combining a gasoline engine with an electric motor. Such cars are also sold relatively well in the Czech Republic, but in They look even further to Toyota. And there Peleška sees hydrogen. According to him, the development of this drive is not over yet, even so the head of Czech Toyota is convinced that hydrogen will already play a significant role among fuels in the medium term.

Chemists and oilmen say the same thing about biofuels. As confirmed by the CEO of ORLEN UniCRE, ORLEN Unipetrol’s research and education center, Jiří Hájek, the company invests significant resources precisely in technologies enabling the production of renewable fuels.

“With respect to all our activities, I would like to point out precisely the projects focused on the processing of advanced bio-components and the involvement of waste materials of vegetable or synthetic origin in the production of fuels.”

However, Unipetrol has launched intensive research in other areas as well, one of which is researching the possibilities of using used cooking oil.

Start tomorrow at 10 a.m. Business Club News List on the topic of Fuels of the Future.

The partner of the Business Club is ORLEN Unipetrol.
