“What will our future be?” : concern of employees at the Renault Retail Group management center in Boigny-sur-Bionne

“Between the heavy health crisis, teleworking and this uncertainty that hangs over us, it’s difficult. Colleagues are low on morale“, deplore Christel, Jessica, Geraldine, Carla and Sébastien, members of the social and economic committee (CSE) of Renault Retail Group management center (RRG), in Boigny-sur-Bionne.

Since early 2020, the announcements made by the management of the car manufacturer’s subsidiary have worried the site’s employees. Created twenty years ago and with 246 employees, its main activity, at 80%, concerns accounting for all RRG establishments located in France.

The prospect of twenty-five non-replaced CDI departures

However, last year, Renault Retail Group presented its “project to change the scope by 2024”, which involved the sale of ten establishments to buyers. Six of them have been sold (Orléans, Nîmes, Strasbourg, Montbéliard, Mulhouse and Nancy); four more should be in 2021 (three in Toulouse and one in Montpellier).

“At this moment, it has already given us a hard time, especially since we have also learned that part of our activities will be relocated to India “, says Christel, also CFE-CGC union representative.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of the manufacturer, RRG is a distributor of the Renault group. Its activities are the sale of vehicles and associated services as well as after-sales. Present in thirteen European countries, it markets the Renault, Dacia, Alpine and Nissan brands.

Then, at the beginning of 2021, in a context where the Renault group is in great financial difficulty, the management of RRG mentioned the proposed sale of eight new establishments, in Nantes, Rennes, Toulon, La Seyne-sur-Mer, Lille, Douai, Valenciennes and Seclin.

These decisions could lead to the elimination of fifty-five posts at the Boigny management center, resulting in the non-renewal of around thirty fixed-term contracts and the departures of twenty-five non-replaced permanent contracts.

Christel speaks on behalf of her colleagues:

Management talks about retirements and voluntary departures. But what if there isn’t enough? What will our future be?

Not considering “those who remain will have to whip”, deplores Geraldine. She and the others are all the more worried that “we have heard of a third wave”.

The impact will be felt in 2022

Angelique Dubois, director of the Boigny site for six years, ensures that at present “there is no social plan”, but includes its employees:

This prospect of decline is anxiety-provoking. However, at the management level, we are trying to find solutions. We are discussing with Renault in order to recover new activities and avoid losing staff.

As Angélique Dubois explains, the impact of sales of RRG establishments will be “gradual because even after disposals, activity will continue for some time. The consequences will be felt at the end of the year and into 2022.

If the members of the CSE do not plan to launch a strike, they distribute leaflets at the entrance of the center every morning in order to communicate their fears.
