What will change on WhatsApp in January

The messaging app continues to evolve. Several new features are expected in the coming weeks.

picture in picture

We told you about it recently. Meta just rolled out an update to WhatsApp that brings a whole battery of new features. However, another very practical feature should appear soon: the picture-in-picture mode. Currently available for some WhatsApp beta users, the mode allows you to navigate on your smartphone while maintaining the video call. A bit like FaceTime on iOS. Since the feature has been in testing since early December, the rollout is likely to follow in January.

Block View screenshots once

“View once” is a WhatsApp feature that allows you to schedule the deletion of your photos and videos. In practice, a user can decide to share media with one of his contacts, but temporarily. Hence the cancellation after viewing. To improve the system, WhatsApp tested the screenshot blocking. In other words, Meta wants to prevent the recipients of these messages from being able to take screenshots. It doesn’t matter which version of WhatsApp you are using.

Group search

It doesn’t sound like much, put like this, but Group Search can be very useful. In particular for the big fans of instant messaging who multiply the conversations. Therefore, Meta has rolled out a feature on the WhatsApp beta that makes it easier to find a particular group or person. Concretely, just type the name of a contact in the search bar to get a list of all the groups in which you are both present. Note that a similar function is already available, albeit more convoluted. The new system is, in fact, much faster.
