Two years ago, there appeared on German roads first prototypes new C-class. Gradually sedans lost their disguise, and it is much easier to see the exterior of the car on fresh spy photos. And in addition, there is new information about the technique and range of the next generation model. In addition to the sedan, the family will retain the station wagon, coupe and cabriolet of the C-class, but the “off-road” model with the All-Terrain attachment, developed according to the same recipe as the similar raised E-class station wagon, and its main competitors will be Audi A4 Allroad and Volvo V60 Cross Country.

The sedan will grow slightly in size, but the proportions of the body and the shape of the side windows will not visually change. Key design innovations will appear at the front and aft. For example, the taillights, like the older Mercedes sedans, will get additional triangular sections on the trunk lid. Up front, the C-class will most likely begin to strongly resemble updated “Eshku”.

The main expectations in the cabin are a new steering wheel, a wide display of virtual instruments, as well as a center console that smoothly flows into the armrest with a touch-sensitive climate control unit and a new media system. This solution is already familiar from new S-class… In addition to numerous electronic assistants and safety systems, the next generation model will get improved adaptive cruise control, which can operate at speeds in excess of 200 km / h, and along with it, a full-fledged Drive Pilot will be available. It is also expected that the new C-Class will be able to boast of an automatic parking function, which will allow the car to independently find a free space in the parking lot and take it without driver intervention.

According to preliminary information, the C-class will retain the current modular MRA platform, but it will undergo revision. For example, all versions will have a 48-volt electrical system, from which the starter-generator will operate (rechargeable hybrids, of course, will also remain in the family). The range of gasoline and diesel engines will consist mainly of four-cylinder units – according to preliminary information, even the “charged” AMG version will get a two-liter turbo four, although thanks to the electric superstructure the peak power of the system will exceed 500 hp. The choice, as before, will offer rear and four-wheel drive.

It is assumed that the official premiere of the new C-class will take place before the end of this year. European sales will begin closer to the summer of 2021, and a little later the cars will reach the Russian market.
