impacts
Almost every day since January 2022, we have recorded coronal mass ejections. Or gigantic solar flares during which the sol projects plasma and magnetic field into space. From time to time, solar winds bring some of it to Earth.
This is how these solar flares are supposed to impact our planet: causing multiple geomagnetic storms that could disturb the geomagnetic field of the land and thus impact the internet, the satellites, the electrical network or even the GPS.
This Sunday, March 13, the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) observed a G2 (moderate) level geomagnetic storm. A level G2 alert is still in progress on Monday and a level G1 (minor) alert is running on Tuesday, March 16.
Consequence: Northern lights can be observed at lower latitudes than normal. Like here in Scotland this Sunday.
