Due to the increasing numbers, the mask requirement applies again in Upper Austria from Thursday. Should there be a second wave of infection in the coming weeks and months, it would differ in some respects from the first.
Upper Austria reintroduces the mask requirement on Thursday in public spaces – i.e. in shops, shopping centers and service companies. It applies to customers as well as to staff. In restaurants, guests must wear mouth-nose protection on their way to and from the table. If the safety distance of one meter cannot be maintained outdoors, wearing a mask is also mandatory here.
Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) justifies this “alternative” step with the recent increase in numbers, which can be attributed to two larger clusters around religious communities and slaughterhouses. The regulation applies indefinitely. If the spread is not contained, further measures are planned.
