PHOENIX – Social media users in Arizona, Las Vegas and California reported seeing a trail of lights in the sky on Thursday night.
Some viewers caught the lights moving across the sky in a single line, while others say they saw them moving from west to north.
In Arizona, sightings were reported in areas including Queen Creek, Surprise, Lake Pleasant and Duncan around 9 PM Wednesday.
The National Weather Service in Seattle reported that the launch of a SpaceX rocket from Kennedy Space Center in Florida is the probable cause of the phenomenon.
According to the SpaceX website, Starlink is the constellation of Internet communications satellites. The constellation is designed to provide fast Internet service in places where terrestrial Internet is unreliable, unavailable, or expensive. Starlink 24, which is likely to be the cause of tonight’s lights, has launched 60 satellites.
A similar event was observed in April 2020, when people saw multiple lights moving across the sky from the southwest to the northeast.
