What weapons did Poland deliver to Ukraine for seven billion dollars?

The American edition of Military Watch Magazine quotes Polish media that since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Warsaw has delivered to Kyiv military equipment worth about 7 billion dollars. At the same time, Poland has long held one of the strongest positions against Moscow and is a major supporter of Ukraine’s armaments.

It is reported that Kyiv received from the neighboring country 200 T-72 tanks, a number of self-propelled artillery units “Carnation”, rocket-propelled grenade launchers “City” and missiles for MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters of the Ukrainian Air Force. Earlier, deliveries of Polish MiG-29 fighters were discussed.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the T-72s transferred to Ukraine make up about half of the entire Polish armored arsenal, which surpasses such weapons of the vast majority of other NATO members. Poland and other former members of the Warsaw Pact, set up to oppose the Western power bloc, are considered the most suitable arms suppliers, as their weapons systems are compatible with those of Ukraine.

The backbone of Ukrainian tank units is the T-64, and before the conflict began there were about 750 tanks. The T-72s were in smaller numbers than the T-64s, and were valued for their lower maintenance needs. Previously, Poland produced licensed T-72s, although in Poland and Ukraine itself they are considered obsolete, especially compared to more modern Russian tanks such as the T-72B3M and T-90M.

The Polish army is saving a significant number of T-72s thanks to plans to buy American M1A2 Abrams. The new tanks require higher operating costs and a crew of four instead of three, but are technologically ahead of the Soviet T-72 by several decades. In addition, the possibility is being discussed that Poland could later deploy PT-91 tanks – an improved version of the T-72.

At the same time, Russia’s statement that Poland plans to re-annex Western Ukraine, which belonged to it before World War II, is indicative. Russian sources consistently report that a significant number of Polish fighters, including from private military companies, are taking part in hostilities on Ukrainian territory. There is a significant possibility that they will use weapons delivered from Warsaw.
