Opening this summer.
It is a project that we have been hearing about for several weeks, that we had discussed on Info Tours and which is now officially validated by the State services. In a few months, the city of Amboise will host a reception center for asylum seekers, a site such as it already exists in Tours, Joué, Chinon as well as in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps for example (CADA in Joué , emergency accommodation in other municipalities). Our department is rather under-endowed with 1 place for 2,350 inhabitants against one for 1,175 inhabitants at the national level. The project is therefore part of a State plan to create 3,000 accommodation places throughout France and 250 in the Center-Val de Loire region in order to fill the gaps.
This newcomer to the Touraine CADA map should welcome its first residents in the summer of 2021, in the heart of the Bout des Ponts district. In fact, it is the old Amboise gendarmerie composed of two renovated buildings which will be transformed into apartments for families or isolated people. The building is located very close to the city center. A total of 90 places will be available (22 for families, 23 places for isolated people, 35 flexible and 10 to be defined), or almost a third of the new beds created for refugees in the region. Note that Indre-et-Loire currently has an accommodation capacity of 680 exiles, the department will increase to 770.
“Each accommodation will allow all isolated people to benefit from a private space and will be equipped with furniture (beds, sideboard, tables, chairs, storage …) and household appliances (oven, hob, refrigerators and washing machine)” indicates the prefecture.
The Red Cross will manage the site, knowing that the town hall of Amboise is also a partner in the operation. The people welcomed should come from countries like Iraq or Syria. This accommodation is offered to them while their files are examined with a view to obtaining a residence permit. In addition to housing, asylum seekers will benefit from French lessons or medical support. There will be a homework help service for children. Half a dozen people are expected to work there (recruitments are underway).
The State will take care of the financing (estimated at 19 € 50 per day and per person present). The Red Cross will receive an annual subsidy of € 650,000 and for its part it will invest € 120,000.
