A call for witnesses has been launched by the Var national police to try to find a man, whom they consider “dangerous”. The man was finally arrested on Tuesday in Ollioules.
The Var national police launched a call for witnesses on Monday to find a man who escaped from a detention center, located in Hérault, “several days ago”.
• Likely to travel to Toulon, La Seyne and Ollioules
According to the Var national police, the wanted man is called Mohamed Meliani. He was likely to go to Toulon, La Seyne and Ollioules, the town where he was finally found.
In the sheet released by the authorities, the individual was described as “dangerous” and “subject to psychiatric monitoring”.
• Already known to the police
Mohamed Meliani is already known to the police. The facts date back to September 2020 and required the intervention of the Raid.
According to information from BFM Toulon Var from police sources, the individual had locked himself in the apartment of his ex-companion in the La Baume residence, in Ollioules. He was armed with a screwdriver.
• Sentenced to four years in prison
The Raid staff had to negotiate for several hours with the individual before he surrendered to be placed in custody at the Toulon police station. No one was injured during the operation.
He was finally sentenced to four years in prison for the kidnapping of his ex-companion as well as for violence against his ex-partner. He is also prohibited from appearing in the territory of the Var.
• He had an exit permit
The man was serving his four years in prison in a detention center located in Hérault. At the end of the sentence, Mohamed Meliani benefited from a leave of absence.
However, he did not return to the prison in which he was. His act is then qualified as an escape.
