What we know about the Coronavirus which is claiming more and more victims – OhChouette!

The viruses responsible for dozens of epidemics around the world continue to spread and mutate, resulting in infections that are increasingly difficult to treat. This is particularly the case of the coronavirus which is claiming many victims in China.

The Chinese authorities have in fact just sounded the alarm, claiming that it has affected more than 2,000 people and caused at least 56 deaths. It was in the provincial capital of Hubei that the syndrome first appeared. It eventually proliferated to reach other Chinese cities.

The first symptoms of this deadly condition are high fever and difficulty breathing. As for transmission, it requires close contact with an infected individual, droplets of saliva from coughing and sneezing from infected people or by touching things like door handles that infected people have touched.

According to the World Health Organization, the respiratory tract is the main vector of this disease.

The deputy director of the National Health Commission of China, Li Bin, said that it is the mutation of the coronavirus that worries most since it adapts gradually which makes its eradication impossible for the moment.

He adds that researchers need more time to find an appropriate treatment.

The changes this virus has experienced also contribute to the rapid spread of the disease. Epidemiologists must therefore redouble their efforts to diagnose and prevent the spread of the infection.

The director general of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Gao Fu, urged local authorities in Wuhan to ban large rallies to limit the spread of the disease. Livestock imports have also been banned, said Li Bin.

As for the international community, the United States and certain Asian countries are beginning to show their concern and are stepping up precautionary measures at airports. North Korea has completely closed its borders to all foreign travelers.

WHO has convened an emergency meeting in Geneva to determine the severity of this epidemic. Appropriate health arrangements will be made should the virus pose a threat to global health.

Despite all these precautions, there are a few cases of Coronavirus in a few Asian countries: three cases have been confirmed in France, four have been confirmed in Thailand, one in South Korea and one in Japan and Taiwan. The United States has also just detected three cases on its territory.
