The government of Saudi Arabia announced the opening of Umrah on 1 Muharram 1443 or around August 10, 2021. However, there are mandatory conditions for Umrah pilgrims.
Quoted from the Daily Star, it is mentioned that the Grand Mosque is ready to hold umrah again. “The Grand Mosque is ready to receive pilgrims and umrah pilgrims,” said the Deputy Head of Affairs of the Grand Mosque, Saad bin Muhammad al-Muhaimid.
However, prospective pilgrims must meet the requirements of having been vaccinated with a complete dose of Pfizer, Moderna or J&J. Including vaccines from China with Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or J&J booster injections.
All prospective Umrah pilgrims must use an agent that has been accredited by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia.
All countries are allowed to send pilgrims on direct flights. Except India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Egypt, Turkey, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa and Lebanon.
Passengers from this country are required to quarantine for 14 days in a transit country before arriving in Saudi Arabia.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Saudi Arabia has had time to close the Grand Mosque for foreign pilgrims. Only Saudis and foreigners around the kingdom are allowed to perform umrah at the Grand Mosque. Itupun is only allowed 30% of the total or 6,000 people per day.
This year Saudi Arabia only accepted 60,000 people from Saudi Arabia’s borders due to the high risk of the COVID-19 pandemic. The total number of pilgrims this year is 58,518, with a composition of 32,816 men and 25,702 women.
