The actors felt terrible embarrassment in front of each other.
Yuri Nikulin got only humorous characters in the cinema. Therefore, the filming of the film “Twenty Days Without War” caused great difficulties for the artist. According to the plot, he was supposed to take part in the bed scene with Lyudmila Gurchenko. But Nikulin was terribly embarrassed to portray feelings with another woman, because he was monogamous by nature. Because of this, he was constantly joking and trying to reduce the level of embarrassment.
For example, when Gurchenko breathlessly informed him that he had very strong hands, the artist calmly replied that he had not yet seen his legs. Director Alexei German stopped filming and scolded Nikulin for inappropriate humor.
The director advised the artists to get used to each other half-naked, so that there was no embarrassment in the shot. Nikulin approached this matter responsibly and one day he came to a compartment to his screen partner in his underwear. As the actor’s son told in the program “The Fate of a Man”, after this trick it became clear that it would not be possible to shoot a frank scene convincingly. Herman limited himself to only one episode with a kiss of heroes.
