Michelangelo cannot find the inspiration to paint the Sistine Chapel and flees to his hometown, Carrara. There, in the mountains, discover inspiration. The Pope, after his anger at Michelangelo’s escape, allows him to resume the painting on the Sistine ceiling. When the cardinals see naked bodies in the paintings they become angry, but the Pope supports Buonarroti’s paintings. While painting the Sistine he suffers an accident, and leaves his work aside. The Pope pressures him, insinuating that another painter of the time, Rafael Urbino, will finish the Sistine Chapel.
