what to do if a child is poisoned by a watermelon

news-id-113043" style="display:inline;">Doctors consider watermelon to be one of the most useful foods, however, it can be dangerous, and cases of watermelon poisoning are not uncommon.

– There were no cases of watermelon poisoning this year. Last year, there were several patients who ate watermelon in the early summer. This led to a deterioration in their condition. After treatment, they were released home, – said the head of the Mangistau Regional Multidisciplinary Children’s Hospital Gulzhan Yermekbayeva.

According to Gulzhan Yermekbayeva, the condition worsens 2-3 hours after eating nitrate watermelon, and 5-6 hours if it is an intestinal infection. In general, the symptoms of watermelon poisoning are no different from ordinary food poisoning:

• hurts and cuts in lives;
• nausea, vomiting;
• diarrhea;
• increase in body temperature;
• weakness, loss of strength.

These signs indicate a general intoxication of the body. Children usually tolerate poisoning worse than adults.
In severe cases, with watermelon poisoning, the symptoms indicate a violation of cardiac activity: a drop in blood pressure, heart palpitations, shortness of breath.

– Frequent vomiting that occurs not associated with eating, that is, 5-6 times within five hours, suggests that you need to see a doctor immediately. If the child is active, then parents can contact the clinic. If the child’s condition worsens, then you need to call an ambulance. Before the ambulance arrives, it is necessary to give the patient sorbents and drink plenty of water, the doctor noted.

Earlier it was reported that Aktau sanitary epidemiologists checked vegetables and fruits in the markets. Experts selected 141 samples of vegetables and fruits. As a result of laboratory studies, an increased level of nitrates in vegetables and fruits was not found. Sanitary doctors recommend that consumers, when buying vegetables and fruits, demand from sellers an accompanying document confirming the quality and safety of products, as well as determining the level of nitrate content.
