This Saturday, September 14, F1 celebrated the qualifying of the Azerbaijan GPwhich defined the starting order for Sunday’s race in Baku.

Qualifying for the 2024 F1 Azerbaijan GP in Baku, in the usual format, consisted of Q1, Q2 and Q3. Q1 started at 16:00 local time, when it was 14:00 in Spain, 06:00 in Mexico or 09:00 in Argentina, Colapinto’s country.

Q1 in Baku lasted 18 minutes and was contested by all 20 drivers. At 14:18 CET Q1 ended and the 15 fastest drivers went through to Q2, while the five slowest were eliminated and ranked 16th to 20th. Q2, lasting 15 minutes, determined the 11th to 15th positions, and the ten fastest drivers then went through to the definitive Q3, where pole position was decided and the starting grid was set.

Between the 2016 European GP and the Azerbaijan GP since then, eight qualifying sessions have been held in Baku including the 2024 one, and Charles Leclerc has taken the last four pole positions, those of 2021, 2022, 2023 and this one. Besides him, Lewis Hamilton also has a pole in Baku, in 2017, and Valtteri Bottas in 2019. The other two were by drivers who have since retired, Nico Rosberg in 2016 and Sebastian Vettel in 2018.

As for teams, only two have achieved pole positions in Baku, five for Ferrari and three for Mercedes.
