Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A total lunar eclipse will occur in Indonesia on May 26, 2021 to coincide with Waisak. The National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Lapan) confirmed that this activity would occur for 18 minutes and 28 seconds.
“This eclipse will take place with a partiality duration of 3 hours 8 minutes 12 seconds and a fairly short duration of totality, which is 18 minutes 28 seconds,” wrote Lapan, quoted from his official Instagram account, Tuesday (25/5/2021).
A lunar eclipse is an event that the sun’s light is blocked by the Earth so that not all of it reaches the Moon. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the sun-earth-moon align. This allows the Moon to enter the Earth’s umbra. As a result, when the totality phase of the eclipse occurs, the Moon will look reddish.
The total lunar eclipse that occurred in Indonesia on May 26, 2021 will be witnessed by all Indonesian citizens without using tools or with the naked eye. The following is the schedule for observers of the lunar eclipse, as quoted from the bmkg.go.id site:

- The eclipse starts at 4:46 p.m.
- The partial eclipse starts at 5:44 PM

- The total eclipse ends at 19.28

- The eclipse ended at 21.51.
3. Eastern Indonesia (WIT)
- The eclipse starts at 5:46 p.m.
