In the entire history of the volleyball Champions League, from the period when it was the European Champion Clubs’ Cup (i.e. until the 99/00 season), there are only two countries whose clubs managed to win this competition at least 4 times in a row. This was done twice by Russia (1986-89 as the USSR and 2012-18) and once by Italy (1992-2000). Poland can join this group today. The previous three editions were won by ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle. This time, the team that the Kędzierzyn team defeated in last year’s final, Jastrzębski Węgiel, has a chance to do so.

But that’s not all when it comes to amazing things. Poland has a chance to achieve a European hattrick. The Challenge Cup, the third most important European competition, was won by Projekt Warszawa. And the CEV Cup, the second in terms of importance, went to Asseco Resovia. Our league therefore has a chance to achieve something historic.
UEFA Champions League. Jastrzębski Węgiel – Volley Trentino. Where to watch? Champions League, final, Jastrzębski Węgiel live today
Jastrzębski Węgiel is the “freshly defended” Polish champion. He defeated Warta Zawiercie 2:1 (3:0, 1:3, 3:1) in the final competition. After this, and after eliminating Ziraat Ankara in the semi-finals of the Champions League, there was only one step left to the coveted double, which ZAKSA won from them last year. This time, however, the obstacle comes from Italy.
We are talking about the Itas Trentino team, or Trentino Volley if you prefer. Although this team won the regular phase of the last Serie A1 season, it failed in the play-off phase, unlike Jastrzębski Węgiel. In the semi-final against Monza they were already leading 2-0 in the best-of-three series. However, then they fell into a complete slump and lost the next three matches, surprisingly not advancing to the finals. Ultimately, Perugia with Kamil Semeniuk and Wilfredo Leon became the champion. Trentino didn’t even take a place on the podium because they lost the bronze medal to Power Volley Milano. In the semi-finals of the Champions League, they defeated another Italian rival, Cucine Lube Civitanova (3:1, 2:3).
