What the world’s first smartphone with an “invisible” camera looks like. Photo

ZTE has published an official render of the Axon 20 5G – the first commercial smartphone, in which the front camera is not located in the “bangs” or on the edge of the case, but is hidden under the screen. Image of the novelty on the Chinese social network Weibo posted Ni Fei, president of ZTE’s mobile devices division.

Judging by the render, the front surface of the Axon 20 5G is one continuous display. Power and volume buttons are located on the right side. The rear panel will house four cameras, one of which will be 64-megapixel.

In China, the release of Axon 20 5G – the first production model with a sub-screen front-facing camera – is scheduled for September 1. Its specifications and price have not been disclosed yet. Whether the device will enter the international market is also not said.

The novelty has already been approved by the Chinese certification agency TENAA. The Axon 20 5G is credited with a 6.92-inch OLED panel (2460 x 1080 pixels), a chipset clocked at up to 2.4 GHz, up to 12 gigabytes of RAM, and a 4120 mAh battery. The front camera is expected to be 32 megapixels.

A patent for a device with a front camera, speaker, and even proximity and ambient light sensors hidden under the display, owns Samsung. A hidden “peephole” located in the very center of the screen, during a video call, will create for the interlocutor the feeling that the user is looking directly into his eyes, and not above. They are actively experimenting with this technology and Vivo, and Oppo с Xiaomi… However, ZTE will likely be the first company to bring a smartphone with an “invisible” selfie camera to the mainstream market.
