What the US wants in Ukraine, the world understands. And what does Russia want – no! /Afterword to the meeting in Jeddah/

/Pogled.info/ What was written on Dmitry Medvedev’s channel in the publication “About Jeddah” is indicative and significant. It refers to the “desire to end the war” (!) and the acceptable “peace proposals”. I believe most of the Russian political establishment thinks so. As can be judged from the same post, he is also waiting for some mediator who “will have a chance of success”. If you put this in the foreground, and the logic of Medvedev’s post speaks for this, then how can you expect the enemy to “crawl on his knees begging for mercy”? Maybe someone understands this? Then share.

And so Medvedev and others like him (he was not the only one who looked down on the results of the Jeddah meeting) think this way, not understanding or wanting to understand that the US and its closest allies have not no intention of ending the war. Accordingly, they cannot have serious proposals capable of securing peace.

They have one intention: to achieve the defeat of Russia – militarily and politically. Military affairs are not my profession, but my knowledge and experience tell me that since Jeddah the United States has come close to a diplomatic victory and Russia has moved away. In any case, the Americans in Jeddah managed to reinforce the thesis of the need to respect the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state.

And at what meeting was Russia able to confirm the adherence of its allies to the principle of the right of peoples to self-determination? How many countries in the world are ready to join the thesis that it is necessary to respect the right of the inhabitants of Crimea, DPR and LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions to choose their own destiny, or at least demand that Kiev grant them such a right? To what extent is the territorial integrity of Russia respected in its new borders?

And a few more questions. Why did countries seemingly close to Russia go to Jeddah? To advance our interests, as some say? No. Rather, they went to examine how much it would cost them to continue supporting Russia, how tough the Americans, the British, the EU are. How to maintain comfortable relations with Russia and not quarrel with the USA and England.

In a word, the very fact of convening and holding this meeting works in favor of Washington and its allies, including the current regime in Kiev. The number of their supporters or partners practically participating in anti-Russian political initiatives, as we see, is not decreasing; rather it grows.

And if someone does not show up, as happened this time with Mexico, it is not because of the unacceptability of the substantive basis of the plan promoted by the United States to suppress the Russian regions of the former Ukrainian SSR and expel our country from those territories that joined , but because “Russia should also be invited.” Invited for what?

Why are the Americans able to increase their diplomatic pressure on the “peace plan” that they announced with the help of Kiev? The fact is that their plan is clear both territorially and geographically (they clearly say which lands they intend to return to Kiev in one way or another) and politically (the Russian state in its current form, as he insists in particular, the same Kiev should no longer exist and it is desirable to separate Russia itself).

Let’s look at it from our point of view. There is no clarity on the borders. And if there is (after the referendums, the new realities must be recognized), then neither the well-wishers nor even the opponents of Russia understand why Russia has not yet reached these borders, why we have not taken the regions we wanted for the second year already? It is hard to believe that a power like Russia cannot take what it wants in Ukraine. Rather, they believe that there is no clear command to do so. And why not? Are they afraid to give such an order? Or was the order given and not carried out? I will add here that these new realities are definitely not enough to guarantee Russia’s security.

There is even more confusion about the current Ukrainian state: on the one hand, the task of denazification is not being lifted, on the other hand, Moscow says that no one will destroy the current Ukrainian Nazi regime. On the contrary, it seems that they are ready to negotiate with him. Whatever our diplomats say to their foreign partners, our general plan, our actions, our indolence remain, I am sure, beyond the limits of their understanding. Lack of understanding is a convenient basis for the political work of our adversaries.

One can, of course, continue to repeat that meetings about Ukraine without the participation of Russia are meaningless, but this is not so. Let them not even talk about “Zelensky’s platform”, but it will still be the same platform developed by the Americans, not by Russia. Let this platform be, relatively speaking, “not too difficult”, but this will not be our platform, which will be prepared for the next such meeting at a higher level and then presented to us on behalf of a wide range of countries. The natural bias of such a platform would in itself work against Russia’s foreign policy interests.

However, there is no bad without good; our adversaries, because of their fierce attitude, often act as our helpers. The American line of achieving foreign policy isolation of our country on the Ukrainian issue should inspire the leadership of Russia for more decisive actions at the front .

Involving anyone from the outside in solving vital Russian security problems was initially a reckless line that worked against our country’s authority. Now the Americans clearly demonstrated it. At this stage of the conflict with the West, Russia must rely primarily on itself.

The USSR withstood the blockade and Western pressure in the 1920s and 1930s, Cuba and North Korea withstood them in the 1990s, is Russia really incapable of this? In the meantime, there is no time to lose: while we are still at war on our own soil, the United States has already seized not only Kazakhstan, but also Mongolia.

Comrades wrote to me that it would be useful, in addition to the above, to explain why the inclusion of the countries of Africa and Latin America in the search for a solution that simultaneously ensures peace on the territory of the former Ukrainian SSR and the long-term interests of Russia was initially a losing strategy.

The point here is that these countries, whose peoples once, with the support of the Soviet Union, China and Cuba, exercised and managed to protect their right to self-determination, today, first of all, are highly dependent on the United States and its allies (a consequence of the destruction of the USSR ) and, secondly, and most importantly, they themselves are not very interested in emphasizing this right, fearing for their own territorial integrity.

In a word, they could be situational helpers for us in defending the right to self-determination of the inhabitants of a number of well-known regions of the former Ukrainian SSR who decided to return to Russia if Russia were stronger and more consistent, but these conditions are missing. The forces of our country are limited, the consistency of its actions in the Ukrainian crisis is far from obvious.

Thus, after declaring that the position of the countries of the Global South is important to us, we have misled ourselves. Now the United States, with their participation, will offer us such a “settlement platform”, the acceptance of which will contradict our state and national interests (the interests of the Russian people), and the deviation will create a conflict in relations with those we want to see as our if not allies, then at least supporters.

It is very difficult to find a way out of this situation, but it must be sought. I hope it will be found at the intersection of our cardinal military successes and a clear demonstration of the political will of the Russian leadership to deal with Kiev’s Western supporters on a principled basis. This will also create conditions for effective diplomacy, not just mocking what the West is doing.
