Alexei Konsovsky survived a terrible tragedy.
Alexei Konsovsky became known to the Soviet general public after the opera roles. In 1943, he played Lermontov in the film of the same name and, 4 years later, the prince in Cinderella. A touching and gentle artist, as if he was created for poetic heroes. And few people knew about the terrible secret that the main “prince” of the USSR hid all his life.
Konsovsky became interested in the acting profession, inspired by the work of his brother. Dmitry was 5 years older than Alexei and began building a career long before his first roles. But in 1934, the 26-year-old actor was arrested by the NKVD. Konsovsky was suspected of anti-Soviet propaganda. He spent the next four years in prison, after which he was sentenced to death. Dmitry fell short of punishment, having died of heart and gastrointestinal problems.
Alexey was very upset by the loss. He was very close to his brother: it was Konsovsky Sr. who discovered the talent in the young man and gladly took him with him to the shoot. Furthermore, he feared that he himself might be arrested as a relative. However, Alessio did not fall into suspicion and preferred to keep his family’s pain a secret.
