The lifeless body of Nazareth Marín, 27 years old and an official of the National Service of Medicine and Forensic Sciences, was found this Thursday morning near the Mare Abajo beach in La Guaira. The young woman had disappeared last Sunday, March 19, while she was enjoying a day at the beach in Playa Los Ángeles. Fishermen in the area sighted her body during her work and alerted the police authorities.
According to the autopsy carried out at the Senamecf headquarters in Caracas, Marín’s cause of death was strangulation, thus ruling out the hypothesis of accidental drowning. The case is being treated as a homicide and tests are being carried out to determine if there was sexual abuse, as reported by journalist Román Camacho.
Witnesses had pointed out that the young woman had gone to the beach with a group of friends and had stayed talking with a group of people who were practicing sports. She then went into the sea to swim and she was never seen again. Her friends did not know her whereabouts and decided to leave the beach without her.
Currently, the Criminal, Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps has detained five people, including a Cicpc official, while they investigate the case. It is expected that in the next few hours there will be an official pronouncement by the competent authorities on the details of the homicide and the clarification of the case.
