What is the difference between the weapons of Russia and other countries, he said on air Channel Five military expert Yuri Knutov.
Helicopters
While Russian helicopters use wheels, most foreign helicopters use skis. According to the expert, this is due to the fact that US military helicopters were developed during the Vietnam War, when the fighting took place in the jungle. And the wheels could simply get stuck in soft ground.
“If we look at modern helicopters, they usually use wheels. I mean helicopters from NATO countries, including American ones,” Knutov noted.
Tanks
According to the specialist, in 90% of foreign tanks, with the exception of the French Leclerc, supplies are sent directly to the gun by the military – loaders, while in Russian ones an automatic loader is used. In addition, in NATO tanks, most of the ammunition is stored directly in a special compartment, which is attached to the turret.
In addition, domestic tanks are lighter than foreign ones. So, in terms of vehicle class, Russian battle tanks such as the T-80, T-90 Proryv and T-95 weigh between 40 and 50 tons, while NATO tanks weigh between 70 and 75 tons.
Infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs)
BMPs first appeared in the USSR, they were used in Afghanistan, and only later such vehicles began to be developed in other countries.
“If we rely on maneuverability, speed and firepower, then the West relies on armor protection. The firepower of the same Bradley is low,” notes the military expert.
Weapon
The famous Kalashnikov assault rifles have remained the main small arms in Russia for many years. Knutov explains that, among other things, they make it possible to fire in single bursts, which is impossible with NATO weapons. True, now, the expert notes, there is a transition to a new standard, the peculiarity of which is the use of a medium caliber between caliber 5-45 and 7-62. This reduces the weight of the ammunition and increases its armor-piercing ability.
Artillery
Artillery systems in Russia have a minimum of electronics and are considered quite easy to maintain. Thanks to this, personnel can master the weapon in a short time and hit the enemy with high accuracy not thanks to external data, but using the coordinates of gunners or drones. But NATO artillery, according to Knutov, is completely dependent on electronics, which often fail and, for example, if an explosion occurs nearby, as a rule, the electronics of the self-propelled gun also stop functioning.
Drones
Russian UAVs differ from foreign ones in many ways, but the main feature: when developing our Lancets, we used an aerodynamic design that no one else in the world uses.
Air defense systems
As for air defense, here, according to the expert, the differences between Russian systems and foreign ones “have developed historically.”
“The country is large, the territory had to be protected from air strikes, and our air defense system is developing in a different direction. It is more efficient and copes better with the task,” added Knutov.
