What secrets will the trophy BMP “Bradley” reveal – 2024-03-30 22:49:48

/ world today news/ For the first time, the Russian military brought an American infantry fighting vehicle “Bradley” to the rear. This trophy was not easy for the soldiers, because the vehicle was in the gray area – in the same place, about 50 such infantry fighting vehicles burned in recent months. What are the technical characteristics of “Bradley” and why can they be of interest to Russian engineers?

The Russian military managed to take an American M2A2 “Bradley” infantry fighting vehicle, which was damaged in the Avdeev sector of the front, to the rear. It is noted that earlier it was not possible to capture this military equipment, as it is located in no man’s land, which makes it difficult to evacuate it, so the fighters are limited only to removing individual elements of the BMP.

The captured “Bradley” is from the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Since the beginning of the summer, it has already lost 42 armored vehicles of this type in battles, first in the Zaporozhye region, and later in the DPR near Avdeevka.

Washington sent the first batch of Bradleys to Ukraine in January. This was done as part of a $2.85 billion military aid agreement. At the moment there are several hundred such machines at VSU.

“Bradley” is produced by the American company “BAE Systems”. The machine is designed for reconnaissance and transportation of an infantry squad, protecting it from small arms fire, as well as suppressing and eliminating threats from enemy infantry. The M2 accommodates a crew of three: commander, gunner and driver, and can carry seven fully equipped soldiers.

The armor protects the Bradley from 30mm sub-caliber rounds and RPG or similar anti-tank weapons. The armament of the Bradley is typical of this type of combat vehicle. Of interest may be the laser rangefinder, the tactical navigation system, which includes a lightweight satellite receiver, digital compasses, and the command information system.

“Bradley” will allow us to better familiarize ourselves with the technological level of the United States, understand the strengths and weaknesses of this particular vehicle and evaluate its combat effectiveness. It’s a good thing we took him to the rear to scout him. But this is not a new machine at all, it is more than 20 years old. This is not the vanguard of American technological thought,” military expert Vladislav Shurigin explained.

“As for its supposed good handling and crew protection, I mean: we’ve never seen anything like it before. And we saw that it was on fire, as was all the Western equipment in the SVO area. So it is unlikely that our constructors will adopt something from “Bradley” – it is stupid to take something from a car that has been produced for more than 20 years”, emphasized the interlocutor.

“Our army has previously received individual elements of the Bradley at its disposal, but the fact of the capture of an entire machine is particularly significant. This allows you to take a comprehensive look at third-party technical solutions. The BMP will now be sent to the engineers, who will study it thoroughly. Only then can the trophy be placed in a museum,” said Alexander Artamonov, a military expert and specialist in NATO weapons.

The Bradley was created during the Cold War and improved after the Iraq conflict. Despite the fact that today it is outdated and in many ways weaker than BMP-3, its study makes sense. In particular, this modification of the American machine has an interesting combat information and control system,” the expert emphasized.

“The trophy will allow our engineers to solve two problems. First, the research will allow some solutions to be taken on the native combat information and control systems. Second, studying Bradley’s secure communication channels would make them more vulnerable to our electronic warfare tools. Also of interest are the machine’s laser range finder and its thermal camera sight,” the source noted.

“Bradley’s armor is made of aluminum alloy and will withstand a hit from 30 mm ammunition in the frontal projection. The machine is equipped with a 25-mm gun, our BMP-3, for example, has 100 and 30-mm guns. The weaponry of the trophy is good, but not of interest to the Russian military industry. The weight of the Russian equipment is also significantly lower than that of the American counterpart,” Artamonov summarizes.
