With the arrival of winter soon, some states in Mexico are preparing to adjust their clocks. Although much of the country is no longer making these changes, certain border areas with the United States will continue to adapt their schedules on November 3.
This adjustment seeks to maintain better synchronization with the commercial and social activities of its neighboring country, a key aspect for economic dynamics and the constant flow of people on the border. But which places should do it?

What places in Mexico will have to change their hours in winter?
The Time Use Law in Mexico establishes that only some areas of the country must adjust their clocks in winter, mainly border areas. Among the states that will modify their schedule are:
- Tamaulipas: Cities such as Matamoros, Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo.
- Chihuahua: Areas near the border, such as Ciudad Juárez.
- Baja California: The entire state, including Tijuana, Mexicali and Ensenada.
- Coahuila: Areas such as Piedras Negras and Acuña.
- Nuevo León: Only in Anáhuac.
These changes seek to align their daily activities with the time zones of the United States, favoring trade and economic relations that largely depend on that connection.

Why don’t some states in Mexico change their hours?
It should be remembered that, since 2022, most of Mexico stopped changing daylight saving time. This means that clocks are no longer set forward one hour in April and set back in October, as has been done since 1996.
The main reason for this decision was that the positive impact on energy savings was no longer significant and, instead, discomfort and health effects, such as sleep interruption, became more important factors. However, in the border areas it is still necessary to maintain competitiveness and synchronization with the United States.
