Punches, kicks, until wrestling are the moves in Sambo. But about wrestling, there is one interesting thing!

Wrestling in Sambo is believed to be inspired by judo. But in Sambo, over time, the wrestling game that is carried out is more aimed at the opponent’s feet.

Wrestling attacks on the opponent’s legs followed by locking his feet, will make it difficult for the opponent to move. Then continue to wrestle in the top position, which will give you an advantage in the bottom fight.

Even in a locked position, the Sambo fighters will use their feet. Khabib Nurmagomedovthe former UFC champion, once explained it.

“Every one of my opponents, including those whose martial arts roots are BJJ, they mostly only use their hands. When they face me, they make mistakes because I use my feet,” he explained on the Youtube channel, Bernardo Faria BJJ Fanatics.

When Khabib Nurmagomedov is above the opponent, his legs immediately flank one opponent’s leg. That’s when the opponent finds it difficult to move.

“When my opponent moves, that’s when his face is not protected. I can hit him freely,” he explained.

From a position flanking the opponent’s legs, Khabib moved to mounted position aka like sitting on the opponent’s stomach.

Khabib’s two legs flanking the opponent’s stomach, will make it more difficult for the opponent to move. Even as seen, Khabib was riding a horse.

“Only with my legs and hips, I can control him. My legs can squeeze him and make it more difficult for him to move. Even if he tries to get closer to me, I can do a lot of locks,” he explained.

“Many of my opponents say, ‘Khabib feels heavier when wrestling’. Even though my weight and my opponent are the same, you know,” he continued.

“My dad always taught me to use the hips because it’s good for balance and puts the weight on the opponent perfectly. He is a judo and sambo coach,” he added.
