Every year, on September 19, the Orthodox Church celebrates the Feast of the Miracle of St. Michael. 2022 falls on a Monday. What kind of holiday is this – Mikhail’s miracle
On the territory of modern Turkey in the fourth century lived a Christian Archip. His daughter was seriously ill. One day Archangel Michael appeared to Arkhip and told him where the healing spring was located in the city of Hierapolis. He brought his daughter there, who was healed after drinking water from a well.
The grateful man built a temple on this site and became the rector himself. However, the pagans did not like his decision very much. They decided to destroy the building. To do this, they sent mountain streams to the temple. At that moment, Archangel Michael appeared again and saved the temple. He cut the top of the mountain with his sword, so that the rivers would not touch the walls. This is what has been called the Michael miracle.
What traditions exist
What can be done about Michael’s miracle? On this day, believers must go to church, pray to Archangel Michael, ask for health from their relatives and friends. And it is also customary to do good deeds, forgive sins and apologize for Michael’s miracle. Among our ancestors the feast of the miracle of Michael was very important. He was always greeted with songs, parties and parties.
Especially popular on this day were meetings with relatives, who were called brothers. In these meetings they apologized to each other, they resolved all the conflicts that occurred during the year. And in the end there was a tradition: make sure you hug everyone. This tradition is still preserved in many Ukrainian villages.
For Michael’s miracle, the whole family should put a health candle and ask the archangel to give happiness, prosperity and well-being to the family.
