It is a fact that popular music has gained a lot of strength. From the old school like Darío Gómez, El Charrito Negro to the newest representatives like Jessi Uribe, Yeison Jiménez, Paola Jara, among others, Colombians have enjoyed this genre that sings to spite and to drink. However, despite its success, Colombian popular music does not have a category in the Latin Grammys and, recently, Jhon Álex Castaño He said what he thinks about it.

“I have not sent anything, nor have I ever made the attempt. One, because this is not called Colombian regional music, this is called popular music or music of spite (…) I think it is to continue working, I think that we have been stuck like that for only five years and for us to go to fight and have a category we need more artists stuck, we need more successes. I think this is about working hard for another five years, of giving strength not only to those of us who are here but also to those who come behind and with ten other artists stuck we can go find a place there“Said the popular singer in an interview for La Red’s Instagram.

It is worth mentioning that other genres such as banda, ranchera, norteña and regional Mexican music do have categories in the Latin Grammys. On the other hand, there is also a category named ‘Best cumbia / vallenato album’.

Later, the so-called ‘El rey del chupe’ emphasized that it is not enough to “sing nice” or have many followers on Instagram to aspire to a category in the Latin Grammy. “It is not that because I sing very beautifully and we are number one in Colombia we are going to want to go to monopolize a Grammy. We have to work more, we cannot get on the movie that we have five million followers on Instagram then already the Grammy, you have to work, compose and force more new artists“, Concluded the aforementioned media.

Jhon Álex Castaño is currently one of the most popular singers of his genre. His music videos have millions and millions of views on YouTube. For example, the song ‘Ya No Quiero Verte’ has so far more than 31 million views, ‘Two reasons’ – whose video clip was released in 2014 – goes for 89 million, ‘Amanecí contento’ has so far more than 47 million of visualizations.

On the other hand, the popular singer is in a romantic relationship with Jenny Suárez, a dentist by profession. In mid-2020, rumors arose that the interpreter of ‘Beber con ganas’ was in a courtship with Suárez. Later, in August of the same year, the Risaraldense confirmed what was so much speculated.

And, it goes without saying that ‘El rey del chupe’ is the father of five children, none with his current partner.

In addition to being one of the most popular popular music singers in Colombia, Castaño also showed his talent for cooking on the gastronomic reality show, MasterChef Celebrity Colombia, in its 2019 version. The winner of this edition of the program was the singer Adriana Lucía.
