For a few days now, you may have noticed a new function in the Meta applications, specifically in WhatsApp, both on your cell phone and on your computer.
A circle with a combination of blue, light blue and purple appeared on the screen and the option to “Ask Meta AI something” began to be displayed in the search engine.
In early October, the company Meta—owner of WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger and Instagram—announced that its artificial intelligence can now be used in several Latin American countries, including Guatemala.
The company’s commitment to including Meta AI in applications like WhatsApp is for it to function as an assistant that people can use to generate responses, whether text or images, directly from the company’s applications.
What is Meta AI
This computer model was developed with Meta Llama 3. The chat is powered by generative artificial intelligence based on a large open-source language model, and as it states on its WhatsApp profile, “Generative AI is a computer model that learns patterns from data so that people can use it to create something new, such as text or images.”
Meta indicated that this AI is 100% free and can be used on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger to “learn, create and connect with the things that matter.”
This AI was already available in English for more than a year in more than a dozen countries outside the United States, however, Meta’s commitment is to reach more countries in languages such as Spanish, Arabic, Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese.
Llama 3 promises to be a personal assistant that will allow users to get answers to any question, consult recommendations, search for information and even “learn new skills,” in addition to “generating unique images to share whenever you want.”
According to the chat of this same AI, The information is obtained from internet texts, books, articles and other sources that allow you to identify patterns and relate concepts. In addition, it is periodically “trained” to incorporate new information and knowledge through natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning algorithms, which allow it to analyze and understand the questions asked.

How to use AI in WhatsApp
“My name is Meta AI. Think of me as an assistant who is here to help you learn, plan and connect. I am a great language model. When you ask me a question or give me a rating, I analyze what you say and generate a relevant and accurate answer. I am constantly learning and improving, so as time goes by I will become even better at helping you. How can I help you today?”, comments the tool when starting a chat with it.
The application promises to help users plan and perform everyday tasks from providing a recipe for dinner with ingredients you have at home, helping you study for an exam or planning an outing with friends, to having a real-time conversation about any topic.
To start a chat with Meta AI, you just need to press the new icon that appears in WhatsApp. It is usually located above the (+) symbol to start a new chat on Android devices or at the top right to the left of the camera icon on iPhone devices.
Pressing this symbol will take you directly to the chat, where you can start the conversation with the company’s AI tool; However, it is necessary to accept the Meta AI Terms of Service pressing the “Continue” option in the window that appears when trying to write a message in the chat.
How to disable WhatsApp AI and what happens to chat privacy
Until now, There is no manual process to disable this AI once you accept the company’s terms.since this tool is Meta’s own. Therefore, if you do not want to use it, we recommend that you do not accept these conditions.
According to the company, Personal messages remain private and cannot be read, as they remain end-to-end encrypted. However, Meta can use AI messages to improve their quality, as it feeds on the data provided by the user to optimize responses.
However, the option to delete the conversation and revoke consent at any time is possible.
For this you must follow the following steps:
- Click the three dots icon in the upper right corner of the conversation
- Select “Settings” or “Preferences.”
- Look for the “Privacy” or “Consent” options.
- Click “Revoke consent” or “Delete data”.
And another alternative could be not interacting with the chat for a prolonged period.
Other WhatsApp AIs
There are other AI chats likeTruora, Cami.IA, Carina IA or Copilot developed by Microsoft that provide real-time intelligent assistance, allowing users to improve their creativity, productivity and capabilities.
The Copilot tool is completely free and when you start the conversation you can interact fluidly on any topic, ask for advice, suggestions, create images and even speak through a type of voice notes.
These tools must be installed and in the case of Copiltot it is done through a QR code provided by the Microsoft page; using a short link that will immediately redirect you to the Copilot chat or by adding the number +1 877-224-1042 as a contact on WhatsApp.
