macOS Monterey premiered at the WWDC21 keynote ahead of its general public release later this fall. Now that the public beta is out, we want to know: what is your favorite feature in the latest version of macOS?
macOS Monterey is the second operating system released by Apple after the introduction of Apple Silicon, and with it, some features will only work if you have a new Mac M1. Even so, Monterey is expected to bring many features that will help the users in their daily tasks.
For example, with macOS Monterey, Apple brings the Applying shortcuts to the Mac. Users can create new shortcuts, access existing shortcuts, etc. It will also integrate with Spotlight, Finder, multitasking support and expand with menu bar. Pixelmator, for example, already announced support for this feature when it was released.
Another app that has captured Apple’s attention with macOS Monterey is FaceTime. The video calling application will feature Spatial Audio to create a “sound field that makes conversations as easy as they are face to face”. At the same time, it will be possible to isolate your voice from the background noise, blur the background of your video and use the application with people who have a Windows computer or an Android smartphone with FaceTime links.
SharePlay is another feature that comes with macOS Monterey that allows users to watch movies, listen to songs, and share their screen during a FaceTime call. Multi-device support and sync playback let everyone see and listen to the same thing at the same time.
One feature that sparked much controversy was the Safari reimagined, it includes a streamlined tab bar, built-in smart search box, redesigned task groups, tabs and sidebar, as well as iCloud Private Relay that lets you connect to virtually any network and to browse with Safari in an even more secure and private way. Do you team up with the new Safari or the old one?
Last but not least, macOS Monterey will also bring Universal control. While not available for beta testers at this time, it will allow the user to seamlessly use the iPad and Mac together. For example, it will be possible to drag a Procreate logo on the iPad to a Final Cut project on the Mac. It uses Bluetooth markup, peer-to-peer Wi-Fi, and iPad touchpad support to let devices know they’re closer to each other.
macOS Monterey has a ton of other great features, which you can learn more about here. What’s your favorite feature so far? Vote in the poll below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
