The AstraZeneca laboratories are in the eye of the storm after a British media revealed that the pharmaceutical company admitted that its vaccine for Covid-19 can cause, in very unusual cases, thrombosis.
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) describes two types of thrombosis: deep vein and pulmonary embolism. These are serious conditions, but preventable.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a condition that occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein. These types of clots usually occur in the lower legs, thighs, or pelvis, but they can also appear in the arm, the CDC says.
DVT can cause serious illness, disability, or in some cases, death.
The problem occurs when part of the clot breaks off and travels through the bloodstream to the lungs. Once there, it causes a blockage known as a pulmonary embolism (PE). If the clot is small, it can be treated and the person can recover, although they could be left with consequences in the lungs. But if the clot is large, it can be fatal by preventing blood from reaching the lungs.

However, anyone can develop DVT.
Some of the symptoms of a person with DVT are:
- swelling

Symptoms vary from DVT. In the case of embolism, they include:

- Signs and symptoms of pulmonary embolism may include:
- difficulty breathing
- irregular or faster than normal heartbeat
- chest pain or discomfort that usually worsens with deep breathing or coughing
- cough with blood

The AstraZeneca laboratories, which developed their vaccine for Covid-19 together with the University of Oxford, admitted in court documents that the substance can cause thrombosis, according to The Telegraph newspaper.
This, following a class action lawsuit filed by users who claim that the vaccine caused deaths and serious injuries in dozens of cases.
